I confirm that I have been lawfully engaged in the active practice of law for three of the five years immediately preceding this application.

NOTE: Active Practice of Law includes the following activities if performed in a jurisdiction in which the applicant is admitted and authorized to practice law, or if performed in a jurisdiction that affirmatively permits such activity by a lawyer not admitted in that jurisdiction:

Representing a client(s) in the private practice of law;
Services as a lawyer with a local, state, territorial or federal agency, or governmental branch, including military service;
Teaching law at a law school approved by the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association;
Services as a judicial officer in a federal, state, territorial or local court of record;
Service as a judicial law clerk (after obtaining a law license, even if a law license is not required for the position); or
Services as legal counsel to the lawyer's employer or its organizational affiliates.

Experienced practitioners may not be required to take the exam if they meet all of the following criteria:

I am licensed in another jurisdiction of the United States; AND,
I have been engaged in the authorized, active practice of law for 15 or more years at the time of this application; AND,
I do not have any public discipline; AND,
I previously took the MPRE for admission in another U.S. jurisdiction.

If an applicant meets the first three requirements but did not previously need to take the MPRE for admission in another U.S. jurisdiction, the applicant will need to take the MPRE or can petition the Colorado Supreme Court for a waiver of this requirement under C.R.C.P. 206.
